Building Surveyors

Traditionally, building surveyors were concerned with the state of the existing building, analysis of the causes of the defects and producing solutions to rectify the situation. This has placed them in an ideal position to be involved in development of existing property, be it maintenance or refurbishment.

When a property is being considered for refurbishment, which may also mean a change in use, such as Victorian warehouses being converted into residential units, the property has to be initially surveyed to establish its condition but also to see if it is practical to convert it to its new use. Design solutions can be drawn up for consideration and the process then continued in a similar manner to any new build development. Resulting from their expertise, building surveyors are sometimes employed as the project manager for the whole project.
